WHAT IS PUJA?

We all do Puja may be daily. May be my Non Indian friends do not know the meaning of Puja but I am sure they also perform it. The English equivalents of ‘Puja’ are homage, reverence, worship, respect, etc. the system and manner of doing Puja is different for different religions and places and the system of Puja generally relates to religions, deities and Gods. In some religions there is an elaborate system of rituals for Puja while in some religions it may be a simple method of prayer only.diwali puja 300x300 WHAT IS PUJA?

It is a fact that All the major religions of the world originated in Asia. Four Major Religions which are Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism were originated in South Asia (India). Other religion like Christianity and Islam originated in South- west Asia for which Jerusalem, Mecca and Madina are important places. All these religions are similar and concept of God exists in all these religions. Sikhism is the only religion in which Gurus existed and it concentrates on Gurus. But, the system of doing the Puja and prayers is associated with all the religions and this fact cannot be ignored. This system is visible in Today’s world also.

Hinduism is the oldest religion of the world in all. Its history is about 4,000 years long. Almost all the other religions except Hinduism evolved during the last 2.600 years. But it is to be noted that Hinduism developed after the 1st agricultural revolution which took place about 10,000 years ago and the intervening period was Vedic period in India during which such Puja systems had not taken roots.

A Divine Weapon given to Humans by God- Communication

‘Management’ is heard everywhere and its demand are growing globally. And communication (Power of Talks) is the skill which is essential for to succeed in any function of ‘Management’.

Long ago, Mahakavi Kalidasa wrote in ‘Raghu Vamsa’, a great play: ‘Vaagartha Viva Sampruktau; Vaagartha Pratipattaye; Jagatah Pitarau Vande; Parvati Parameswarau’ ‘I salute Parvati and Parameswara, Parents of the Unvierse, To bless me with Expression and Meaning, For they are so united.’

This clearly shows that Kalidasa knew that in communication, word and meaning should be closely blended. It is always necessary that what we write should exactly mean what we mean. Communication is a great divine weapon which separates Humans with other living beings as they have the power to communicate ‘well’. Expression of feelings is the only differentiator, which separates us with other living beings on earth.

But if you misuse, it may become destructive weapon in the hands of a fool. There are people who enjoy felicitations with the power of their ‘speech’! There are people who invite wars due to lack of proper communication! You can take back the slip of your leg and can get healed, but you cannot reverse the slip of a tongue!

According to Francis T. Bergin, A well-known expert in communication, the seven C’s are the essentials of communication. It should be ‘correct’, ‘clear’, ‘complete’, ‘concise’, ‘concrete’, ‘candid’ and ‘courteous’. This relates with the advice of Valmiki who wrote it centuries ago in his timeless epic?

Hanumad Ramavana

Hanuman went to the Himalayas to continue his worship of Rama after the victory over Ravana where he scripted a version of the Ramayana using his nails. At that time Maharishi Valmiki visited Hanuman to show his own version of the Ramayana but became disappointed and stated that his labor will go ignored on which Hanuman discarded his own version which is called the Hanumad Ramavana. Valmiki got so touched with this that in his version he understated, he would take another birth to sing the glory of Hanuman.

After the war the time arrived for Rama to depart to his heavenly abode. At that time Hanuman requested to remain on the earth as long as Rama’s name exist and Sita accorded his desire granting him that his image would be installed at various public places so that Hanuman could listen to Rama’s name chanted by people and thus Hanuman is one of the immortals of Hinduism.

Hanuman is also known as the brother of Bhima as both have the same father, Vayu. During the exile of Pandava’s, Hanuman appeared as a weak and aged monkey and lied with his tail blocking the way of Bhima on the field. Bhima unaware of his identity asks to remove the tail to which Hanuman answered that Bhima should remove it himself. Bhima tried hard using all his strength but failed and therefore inquires into Hanuman’s identity. Bhima also requested and sees the same size of Hanuman in which he had crossed the sea to go to Lanka looking for Sita.

Popular folk art of Karnataka, Yakshagana depicts Hanuman as phophets, power and presence in the present age. Many prophets of modern times had claimed to have seen Hanuman such as Madhvacharya (13 Century A. D.), Tulsidas (16 th Century), Sri Ramdas Swami (17 th Century) and Raghavendra Swami (17 th Century), Swami Ramdas (20 th Century) and Sri Sathya Sai Baba (20 th Century). Swaminarayan strongly believes that other than worship of God, Hanuman is the only lower deity who can save us from the evil spirits and thus should be worshiped.

Wherever the deeds of Sri Rama are sung, the presence of Hanuman removes the fear of demons. A variation of such texts can be found in Tulsidasa’s Vinaya Patrika and the Mahabharata. Hanuman also reserves a special place even when Ramanpath takes place. Villagers consider Hanuman as their protective guardian. His images can be seen in a number of temples especially where images of Vishnu’s avatars are installed. It is believes that Hanuman idols and images keeps the area free from evils. It is also believe that Hanuman protects people from accidents and that is why his idols can also be found on mountain roads.

God and Religion

jesus christ of nazareth God and Religion

Many of the people in the society believe that religion is today the greatest cause of war among man and man. But they don’t think that religion is made by these ‘man’ only and god doesn’t tell about any religion. God does not equal religion; God can not be in either way compared to religion. Believe in God is one. God equals faith. So Religion and faith are not the same.

The primitive Judaic concepts of deity are sorely out-dated now, and came from a barbarous time with no literacy and a “survival first” mentality. The purpose of religions is to teach morals and ethics, create a more harmonious civilization. However, historians now attribute 1.5 BILLION deaths to Catholicism alone, not counting the other religions.

This is hardly “ethical living” – in fact, the Bible and western religions are so violent that in time they may even be OUTLAWED by more humane societies.
cross of Golgothakreuz cropped God and Religion
History also shows that there were fights among the various religions because of their rights and beliefs. They don’t think about the creator of whole universe which is only one name God. The “Creator” can’t be happy that we destroy so much of it, but then the Creator created this mess, allows the mayhem and carnage, so it’s not a “thinking, moral” Deity in charge at all, more like a “Force” from Star Wars or universal energy that can be used for good or evil, that’s up to us. Whatever created this mess created the bad with the good, the evil with the righteous, and the dark with the light? The Yin-Yang concept is “how it is”, ‘God’ by definition, is “everything”, the whole ball of wax.

There is hope for the survival of human civilization and that hope is manifest in the consistent application of reason, in the ethics and values expressed through secular humanism, and in the constant evolution of human intelligence through scientific inquiry.

IT DOES PREACH BCS WE ONLY HAVE CREATED RELIGIONS.…… SO WE ONLY PREACH EVIL THERES NO GOD TO SAY SO…. ITS OUR WITHIN US AND OUTSIDE US….BUT INTERPRETATION IS WRONG….
ganesha God and Religion
Yes, I really think about religions in this way. No doubt they were created to help people understand the world, Nature, which seemed to them strange and impossible to understand. Then religions became related with political power. God was supposed to give power to chosen people called kings, queens etc. So religions began to compete to win the first place in the world of politics. Now their fights (I mean the fights between various cults, churches) have nothing to do with good virtues.

ABOUT INDIAN MYTHOLOGY

Indian Mythology is one of the richest elements of Indian Culture, which enriches it further and makes it a unique one in the world. Through generations, different stories in Indian mythology have been passed from generation to generation either by word of mouth or through carefully stored scripts and histories.

It should be our efforts to bring forth the different elements of Indian mythology by a myriad of articles and stories which not only make educational reading but also make a good source of recreational reading. People should distribute those great stories which gives meaning ful information and provide knowledge to the society. These stories, which form the backbone of Indian mythology, area great medium for people especially parents to inculcate interest in Indian Culture in the younger generation and to impart values of Indian culture to them.

The interesting aspect of the stories in Indian Mythology, is that they are usually meant to convey subtle facts, rules and maxims to guide our daily lives. Who doesn’t enjoy a well written story? Naturally story-telling is the best medium for conveying even powerful messages.

The stories in Indian mythology vary from subtle maxim conveying tales of Panchatantra and Jataka-tales to subtle life paradigm defining stories from the Bhagvad-Gita, Ramayana and Mahabharata. A key point to note is that there are usually multiple stories explaining the same fact or occasion or festival. So each version is right in its own merit. This is a result of the natural evolution the stories might have gone in the process of being handed over from generation to generation for centuries.

Our effort should be to demystify the myths which were used to commonly prevail in Indian mythology by a series of stories which shall be enlightening, educational and fun. We shall strive to make it the best resource of information on Indian mythology available to you. Reader’s contributions and Donations are most welcome and helpful. Feel free to contact us with any Indian mythological story you have.
